In the middle of the curtain, between bastion VI and VII. During the Duchy of Warsaw around 1807, the hencoop was built
Indicative visualization of the lunette between bastions VI and VII and its surroundings was developed by K. Chajdys
– a small building which was used to shoot the road on the outer line of the moat, so-called the covered road. In front of it, one of the most innovative works of the fortress was raised – a big, ground, extended building, so-called lunette. It had powerful embankments from the front but from behind, which means from the fortress side, it had an opened back. Since 1825, the Russians planned to insert into the interior of the lunette, the powerful casemate inside the earthwork which was never done. Intense works started in 1854, in the face of possibility of war with Austria and probable another Polish rebellion. The earthwork was made as a ground, not as a casemate redoubt. After the fortress was demolished in that place in the second half of 19th century, the barracks of Cossacks were built. The study made by the Technical University of Cracow (Politechnika Krakowska) in 2006 showed that this build-up complex was significantly valuable, with a particular emphasis on the past green barracks, in fact, the only remnants of the garrison, still not the fortress planting in the Fortress of Zamość. That is why in the project “Zamość, the city of UNESCO”, Historical Monument of Poland, the tourist product of the Polish economy”, a very important role for the old lunette and later Cossack barracks was provided.
The enormity of the work of the former defense was marked in the area with the use of the partially reconstructed embankments and planting. For the buildings of barracks and the surrounding gardens the most important feature for a restored fortress was assumed - the center of information and education for visitors of Zamość. The works were finished in 2012.
