transformations indicate changes apparent in the following plans in the third quarter of the 17th century and 18th century. During the storming of May 20, 1809 as a result of fire right (north) face of the bastion collapsed, which forced a complete renovation. There was built then the earth/natural cavalier in the neck, which is also the northern extension of the shaft curtain. On its axis one introduced a postern to connect the bastion platform with Zapolle. North face of the bastion collapsed again in 1817. This work had to be radically rebuilt, starting from the foundations. As a result, in the years 1818-1820 the bastion was made in large part from scratch: it was escarped with a new wall to form a rifle from inside the gallery, in the shoulders one made new casemates. The reconstruction o it is faithfully shown in his watercolors by Jan Paweł Lelewel. More interestingly, these drawings make us believe that a significant part of very modern exterior fortifications from the times of the Duchy of Warsaw was then maintained or developed according to the plan by Mallet of years 1817-1818. This phase of development of the fortifications of Zamość was later completely transformed by the great and never finished reconstruction of the plan of 1825. Finding its confirmation is important because it shows the last and proven in battle and developed, modern form of the fortress of Zamość serving Polish interests. In 1831 the cavalier was put a step upwards in the neck of the bastion. Despite these works in 1850 cracking in the walls appeared again. Thanks to the installation in 1919 in that part of the fortifications of the city park (design by Valerian Kronenberg), both part of the front of the bastion and its fortification were made legible in the form of terrain and plantings. The natural and great cavalier was treated in a conservation method.
On May 31, 1974 there was passed a resolution No. 139 of the Council of Ministers on the renewal of the old town of Zamość. The said resolution determined the tasks and measures for the renewal of the Old Town. On October 6, 1978 one adopted a resolution of the Council of Ministers number 150 on the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city, among other things, approving the program of construction and maintenance and specialized works in the urban set of the Old Town. As a result of these decisions the curtain at the Bastion IV was completely rebuilt, reconstructing the facade of Lublin Old Gate juxtaposed to the artillery casemates (the so-called traverse) of the 40s of the 19th century. Under the project "Conservation, restoration and adaptation for cultural purposes of the fortifications of the Old Town of Zamość", in 2009 the casemate was adapted for tourism and catering. As a result, the next project "Zamość - the city of UNESCO, Monument of the history of the Republic of Poland as tourism product of the Polish economy" there were performed repairs and maintenance of postern and casemates in the cavalier of Bastion IV, improving its accessibility and making a significant structural revaluation of the park.
