Due to the fact that Bastion I was blown up and levelled and later a railway track was built through its remains,
its outline was hardly visible although its flak casemates have been preserved. Only remains of its counterguard have survived. The aim of works carried out on the site was to create a new earthen structure, whose form would reflect the size and location of the front part of the former Bastion I. The bastion has become part of a park area with two footbridges over the railway track, leading to northern parts of the bastion and the Old Town. The local greenery has been thinned out to provide a better view of the town and Great Pond. From the face of the bastion, the foreground of the fortress can be clearly seen.
