The Nature Trail

Green signs. It runs about 20 m north of this information kiosk. It will lead you to a place from which you can see the front part of Bastion II. Farther still, the trail will lead you along the so-called invert channel, i.e. a ditch removing water from the bottom of the moat. After Mallet-Malletski remodelled the fortress, this narrow ditch filled with water was the only remnant of Great Pond, which would stretch to the fortress walls earlier. The green plants and grass growing here show that it is still a marshy area.
