The Fortress Trail
Rose signs. The trail has passed the back of Pałac Zamojskich and led you to Bastion III. By the information kiosk there is a lapidarium where you can see fragments of archaeological items found during the works conducted in the left flank of the bastion. Do not miss it because there are relics there dating from Bernardo Morando’s time! You also must see an exhibition devoted to Zamość Fortress in Prochownia. Climb the platform of bastion retrenchment and stand below a symbolic flagpole with a flag representing the White Eagle to show that the fortress again belongs to the Republic of Poland. Near Bastion III is the Arsenal - Museum of Weapons and Fortifications with its magnificent collections. Opposite the Arsenal is the “New Arsenal”, a modern pavilion built into the embankment housing military items dating back to both world wars, the Second Republic of Poland and the Cold War. After visiting the museum go in the direction of the Szczebrzeska Gate; when you have walked through the gate, you get to a square in front of the ravelin with a blockhouse* - a guard house dating from the time of the Duchy of Warsaw and housing a tourist agency. To walk along the underground trail in Bastion II, you have to go back to the moat. After leaving the bastion walk along the curtain wall to the casemate of Bastion I. On the face of this partially-reconstructed bastion is another information kiosk.
