The outline of the counterguard, dominating the surrounding area in front of bastion* III has been reconstructed. It is not by
any means a full reconstruction of this defensive work. The counterguard* comes from a different time than the reconstructed Bastion III but it is an excellent background for the bastion. The moat will be widened (at the time of Russian it was just a narrow grove) also on purpose; it will reflect the fortification landscape as it was in the 17th and not in the 19th century. In this way the reconstructed counterguard and the bastion have become a harmonious part of park and fortress landscape of the western side of the fortress.
