The recipe for conquering the never conquered “Green Zamość Fortress”:
  1. Select one of the theme trails and you will get to know the fortress inside out.
  2. Look for the posts designating the trails and for the signposts. They will lead you along pathways and alleys, over bridges and embankments, along the moat and sometimes into the underground and casemates of Zamość Fortress.
  3. Stop at the big information boards. They provide an overview of each section of the fortifications.
  4. The slant boards, big and small ones, will uncover the beauty and mysteries of the scenery of Zamość Fortress for you.
  5. The wider, yellowish and beige pathways are those along which you HAVE to walk. Those grey, tarmac ones are the pathways along which you MAY walk. They are for those of you who have more time. They will lead you to places and spots of exceptional and special character. They will let you “wander romantically” about our fortress. We particularly recommend wandering along the meandering pathways down the moat. This is a trail for the connoisseurs of former fortifications and for the connoisseurs of … beautiful views.
  6. Our special guides will tell you the story of Zamość Fortress transformations and about the battles fought for it. They will tell you the story of bloody battles and those bloodless ones: battles for its reconstruction and restoration for the inhabitants and tourists to enjoy. You will find out a bit about old weapons, military uniforms and military habits. You will even find out something about the military cuisine. The special guides are 20 information kiosks, like this one. You will see them out in the open and inside the fortification casemates. Ask them about the things that are of interest to you. You can even play the “Zamość Campus Martius” game! Write down all the codes you are granted after you have solved the (not too easy) puzzles in each information kiosk. After you have gone through all the trials and come back here like an old, experienced war veteran, with a complete set of codes, open “The Book of Military Glory”! You will not regret it!
