Birds of Zamość greenery and fortifications – little owl (Athene noctua)
and underground fortification elements. Birds representing different species are everywhere. The Town Park at whose gate you are standing is an excellent place to watch birds. Lucky birdwatchers may even see representatives of rare species, such as the smallest hawk in Poland called the merlin, the smallest owl – the little owl, the peregrine falcon preying on pigeons or the barn owl, a nocturnal bird of prey. Rare woodpecker species include the middle spotted woodpecker, the European green woodpecker and the Syrian woodpecker, all to be found in the Town Park designed by Walerian Kronenberg.
