Polish 17th century 12-pounder guns (quarter kartouwen) weighed over 1600 kg and 6 pairs of horses were needed to transport them. Their barrels had a calibre of ca. 120 mm and they fired cannon balls weighing about 6 kg over the range of 270-560 m. The maximum effective range could reach 700 m and when they fired fire grenades - up to 500 m. They were the lightest guns, used to destroy enemy defences.
