The fortress tomorrow

Contemporary form of Zamość fortifications draws on the form of fortresses popular the middle of the 19th century. In some places fortification works have been painstakingly reconstructed but in other places it was impossible due to a high cost, contemporary land development and property issues. The present condition of “Green Fortress” is the first step towards further supplements and faithful rebuilding of former fortifications. In the future Rotunda Zamojska - a place of martyrdom - and its surroundings are going to be renovated, Bastion I will be reconstructed in its full form after demolition of the railway track, rebuilding of Bastion VI will be started, the curtain wall between Bastions I and VII will be supplemented, fortress greenery will be recreated on current basis and, finally, the southern watery foreground of the fortress called Great Pond - Wielka Zalewa will be reconstructed.
